New sibling book questions
Should the gift come from the baby?
That is the classic move, and it works. Sign the dedication page from the baby, wrap the hardcover, and let the older sibling open it at the hospital or on the first day home. Being handed a book about themselves by the newcomer turns a rival into a fan. Grandparents often do this on the parents' behalf.
Can I make it before the baby is born?
Yes, and most people do. The older child is drawn from a photo, and the baby appears by name or nickname in the story, arriving in the way you describe. If you do not have a name yet, use the one you are using at home, like Peanut, and the book becomes a funny record of that too.
What age is a big brother book for?
Most older siblings are between two and seven when a baby arrives, and the reading level you choose sets the tone. For a two-year-old, keep the text simple and let the pictures carry the story; for a six-year-old, pick a higher level and give them a book they can read to the baby themselves.
Can twins or two older siblings share a book?
